1. Do you really need it?
2. If you do need it, can you borrow it from someone?
3. If you can’t borrow it or plan to use it all the time, can you buy it used? (Facebook Marketplace, Craig’s List, Facebook Group Giveaway groups, OfferUp)
   • Please avoid Amazon unless you’re buying used (make sure to shop at Smile Amazon too). There are a lot of items that can be bought used, beyond books. We’ve found items such as pots and pans at a discount and basically BRAND NEW but considered “used” because it was probably returned.
4. If you can’t find it used, try to see how you can buy the most sustainable option:
   -Buy local when possible instead of having it shipped
   -Try to purchase from B-certifed Corps
   -Purchase long-lasting, durable items made from quality material
   -Avoid items in plastic packaging
   -For specialty items, consider shopping on places like Etsy to support small businesses
